Little Women – A Movie Review

Little Women is a classic tale written by Louisa May Alcott. The book is about four sisters in the March family, Meg, Jo, Amy, and Beth, and follows the struggles their family goes through over the years. The sisters have their own ideas of what women should be seen as. In a time where women have limited jobs and opportunities, they have to find ways to earn money to support their family. The book follows each of their lives as they leave home, and go out into the world trying to make do. I really enjoyed reading the book, and the story it portrays.

The book was recently made into a live action movie, released December 25th, 2019. Last week, we went to watch the movie with our family. I liked the movie. It is set towards the middle of the book, but it goes back every so often to their childhood or the events leading up to the time it is set in. However, if you have not read the book, or do not know the general storyline, I can see how it might be confusing. I really liked the movie and if you have read the book, I definitely recommend seeing it!

Tip Top Meats and European Delicatessen – Restaurant Review

Last Saturday, our Mom decided to check out a place called Tip Top Meats, a small shop and sit down delicatessen in Carlsbad.

We took some time looking at the menu. Dad and Mom both ordered the Sausage Sandwich, with bratwurst, and potato salad. The sandwich was definitely not what dad expected! The bratwurst came separately and the sandwich itself was just lettuce, tomato and bread. He still enjoyed it though! Kiran, had the Roast Beef Sandwich with fries. Simran and I both had the Ham and Cheese sandwich with fries. It was delicious! We must also applaud them for their portions. Their sandwiches were big enough for a swimmers appetite, but not too overloading!

Overall, we loved the food! I would definitely recommend stopping by and trying it out sometime!

The War That Saved My Life – Book Review

The War That Saved My Life is a historical fiction book by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley that takes place during World War 2.

Ten year old Ada has never been outside. She has never been on the streets playing. Her mother is too embarrassed of Ada’s crippled foot to let her outside of their apartment. However, when her little brother Jamie is going to be sent to London to move away from the war, Ada is determined for them not to get separated. They are both sent away to London where a new adventure is waiting for them.

In London, a new adventure starts for not just Ada and Jamie, but for a woman named Susan Smith, who was forced to take the two in. Now that Ada is free to move around, and go outside, she teaches herself how to ride a pony, and learns how to read and write for the first time. As time passes, Ada and Jamie begin to trust Susan, and Susan begins to fall in love with them. Will the three of them be able to live happily together, or will Ada and Jamie be forced back into their mother’s cruel grasp.

I would rate the book a 10 out of 10. I would rate it a 10 because the book was sad but realistic, and really showed you how hard it was for children during World War 2, and what life was like for children who were ‘different’. I really enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it!
